International Dance Day-April/29/2021
Dance is a universal language. According to Oxford, the definition of dance is "move rhythmically to music, typically following a set sequence of steps". Dance gives emotional relief and pleasure to both the viewers and the performers.
To spread the importance of dance, International Dance Day was created by the International Theater Institute (ITI) with the help of United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization(UNESCO). From April 29,1982 the International Dance Day was celebrated to commemorate the birth anniversary of Jean-Georges Noverse, the creator of modern ballet.
Every year, on this day various events regarding dance takes place all over the world. The International Theater Institute (ITI) also hosts a flagship event, where various culturally significant dance performances, educational workshops, and speeches made by ambassadors, dance personalities, dignitaries and the selected Message Author of the year are held as the agenda.
The Message Author of 2020 was Gregory Vuyani Maqoma from South Africa. This year Friedemann Vogel from Germany is selected as the Message Author. The theme of International Dance Day 2021 is the "Purpose of Dance".
